Everyone knows off-roading is fun. And it's common knowledge that—barring a few specific situations—you should have a four-wheel-drive vehicle if you want to do much more than drive across a field.

But when you're driving a four-wheel-drive vehicle, there's a lot more going on than there is with a simple two-wheel-drive vehicle. Even if you stay on the pavement, how do you avoid messing anything up?
